Today 36 years ago, a spaceshuttle landed on moon. Yes, Apollo 11 is the first lunar landing by humans on July 20, 1969. Five other successful lunar landings followed. The Apollo program ended in 1974. It was named after the Greek god of learning, Apollo.

In honor of the first manned Moon landing, which took place on July 20, 1969, Google have added some NASA imagery to the Google Maps interface to help you pay your own visit to our celestial neighbor. Happy lunar surfing.
