Matt Mullenweg, the guy behind WordPress which powered this weblog, is leaving his current job at CNET. Matt joined CNET in October 2004. One year after he joined Cnet, he will leave it and will totally focus on WordPress.com, WordPress.org, bbPress, a WordPress non-profit, Ping-O-Matic, and a few unnamed projects.

I remember reading an interview of Digital Web Magazine (DW) with Matt about WordPress on November 2004:

DW: Other than the usual reasons, why did you decide to make WordPress open source, GPL-licensed as opposed to a licensed plan?

MM: If you do anything for the money you end up selling out. Do what you love, what you can’t not do, and the money will follow.

I think the WordPress value to the community as a GPL extension of what came before is a million times more valuable than whatever pittance I would have gotten from doing a proprietary thing. The benefits I’ve gotten personally from focusing on what I love have been numerous, and go beyond the purely monetary.

Goodluck, Matt! You have choose your bests!

How to post an entry via Flock? First, find a blog button. It looks like a feather. A new window will open. Put the title of your entry on the “title field” and choose an account. Type tags into the tag box. Use commas to separate tags. If you have finished writing your entry, click the “publish” button located at right top of the window. You’ve done! It’s easy, isn’t it?

This morning I received an invitation from Flock. This is very cool. What I did first was trying to post an entry to my weblog using Flock. The process is seamless. After putting my username and password for my blog, I can post quite easy.

I will learn more about Flock.

Update: You can get WordPress.com account by downloading Flock.

Flock will Rock the Net October 20, 2005

flock

Flock, a new browser based on the Gecko engine that powers Mozilla browsers, starts sending invitation to get a developer preview of the application. I have sign up my email but I haven’t got the inviation. But initial reviews by bloggers seem to be very cool.

The coolest thing about flock is its ultra tight integration with social bookmarking through del.icio.us and blogging. There is no favourite button anymore in the browser. All is done right away from toolbar. Flock can remotely manage and use your del.icio.us bookmarks. Blogging can be done very easy because there is an integration with some weblog API’s. There is also a Flickr topbar which will bring you to images after signing in your Flickr account.

What I can do now is just imagining how cool is Flock. I am still waiting for the invitation to download and install Flock.

ecommerce

International Herald Tribune reported that roughly 10 percent of the world’s population – more than 627 million people – has shopped online at least once. This figure is the result of a research created by ACNielsen.

The countries with the highest incidents of shopping online were Germany, Austria, and the UK with at least 95 percent of surveyed Internet users having made purchases online. The US ranked eleventh with 89 percent of users having purchased something online. Indonesia is not listed in the article because, I think, internet penetration is still low in our country.

But, it does not mean that Indonesia has no innovation. One of Amal’s friend offers biscuit using his/her Yahoo! Messenger and Friendster. The seller said that the result was overwhelmed. Isn’t it good?

import

Update: It seems WordPress.com has disabled this feature. The link to import is unavailable anymore. Please ask WordPress about his feature.

Finally WP provides a feature which enables us to import our blogger located at Google’s BlogSpot.com to WordPress.com. You can find a button at the right side of your dashboard. This importer allows you to import posts and comments from your Blogger account into your WordPress blog.

Follow the link and you will find a step by step instruction:

The script will log into your Blogger account, change some settings so it can read your blog, and restore the original settings when it’s done. Here’s what you do:

  • Back up your Blogger template.
  • Back up any other Blogger settings you might need later.
  • Log out of Blogger
  • Log in here with your Blogger username and password.
  • On the next screen, click one of your Blogger blogs.
  • Do not close this window or navigate away until the process is complete

I haven’t tried this feature but I am sure it works for you. Well, this is a big punch for Google from WordPress, I think.

google2084

New York Times published a witty, thought-provoking, and humorous cartoon about Google, the mammoth search engine. The cartoon is created by Randy Siegel, the president and publisher of Parade Publications.

Randy visualized Google in the year 2084 when Google is able to search not only web. Hope some day Google does take over the world and it is able to search something classified such as satellite photos of people you want to spy on, satellite photos of people spying on you, medical records, credit reports, tax records, phone records, court documents, other people’s conversation.

But it does not stop there, Google also will sniff your brain, your home, your family, friends, ex-frineds, relatives, co-workers, ex-spouse(s), enemies. Your life can also be traced on Google, not only the present but also the past and the future. What makes me laugh is a button labelled as “I’m feeling paranoid” beside the usual “I’m feeling lucky.”

Walid Elias Kai a Lebanese living in Kalmar, Sweden is a fanatic. Yes, he is a person who is ardently devoted to a particular subject. Kai, a Ph.D. in search engine marketing, is fond of Google very much that he named his son Oliver Google Kai. He has registered his baby name in Swedish Registry the day after the child was born.

Now the baby has a domain name, google-kai.com and a weblog located at http://googlekai.blogspot.com.

I hope there is father or mother who gives his/her baby’s name Ipod or Ebay or Yahoo! Those names sound good too, right?
